Did you know that Mexico City is the oldest city in America, founded in 1325? Which means that, when you visit, you’ll be surrounded by pre-Hispanic ruins, viceregal and art nouveau buildings, and modern skyscrapers. All of which can be appreciated from these beautiful view points. The best terraces in Mexico City, in our opinion:
EL MAYOR
There’s a reason why this terrace shows up in every list. It’s difficult to beat this view of Mexico City: Templo Mayor (pre-Hispanic ruins) on one side, the Cathedral and tons of viceregal buildings on the other, and the Torre Latinoamericana, which for many years represented the ‘modern Mexico City’, in the back. This building itself dates back to 1550!
Food: Mexican fusion (authentic, but not spicy). Vegan options available.
Tip: Do yourself a favor and order a mango Margarita with chili and a brie cheese with chili marmalade.
Open: Mon-Sat: kitchen runs from 09:00-18:30, but you can stay until 20:00. Sun: 10:00-18:30. Reservations aren’t available on weekends, so there’s usually a big waiting line.

AZOTEA ACAPULCO
This terrace concept screams Roma neighborhood: 1900’s building, a gallery on the first floor, Mexican designer stores above and an incredible rooftop that transports you back to the 50’s tropical vibes of Acapulco (one of the nearest beaches to Mexico City). If you prefer a more quiet/laid-back type of ambience avoid weekends.
Food: Mostly seafood with Mexican touches. Vegan options available.
Tip: Order some duck tacos and this cocktail: Mictlán. It’s prepared with mezcal, chipotle, chili liquor and rosemary.
Open: Tue-Sat: 13:00-02:00, Sun: 11:00-22:00. Closed on Mondays. Make a reservation on weekends.

TERRAZA CATEDRAL
You’ll never be this close to Mexico City’s cathedral. The view is spectacular! Especially around sunset… This place is more of a laid-back bar with appetizers, and since it’s part of a hostel by Mundo Joven, you’ll be hanging out with other travelers. On Wednesdays they have dance lessons, on Thursdays live Jazz, and on Fri-Sat-Sun different DJ’s.
Food: Great bar with appetizers.
Tip: Try their ‘Tulum’ cocktail with mezcal, chili liquor and pineapple juice, or ask for a beer and a hamburger. Oh, and a guacamole with pork rind.
Open: Mon-Thu: 13:00-00:00; Fri-Sat: 18:00-02:00. Make a reservation to get a table, especially on weekends.

TERRAZA CHA CHA CHÁ
Another tropical terrace inspired in Acapulco, but this time in the 70’s and overlooking Mexico City’s Monumento a la Revolución (Monument to the Revolution). What a view! The perfect ambiance to just relax and enjoy your meal.
Food: Mostly seafood with a Mexican touch.
Tip: Order the pork rinds with tuna and some duck tacos, you’ll thank us. And if you fancy a tequila, ask for a ‘Cantarito’.
Open: Mon-Sat: 13:30-01:00; Sun: 13:30-19:00.

THE COMRADE
This old Mexican casona is what 1900’s Mexican architecture and Polanco neighborhood is all about. A gorgeous open back patio overlooking the beautiful façade and a delicious menu. Don’t forget to try one (or two) of their delicious cocktails.
Food: International.
Tip: Try the ‘Peruvian Ceviche’ and the ‘Mexican Sopes’, and don’t think about ordering any dessert other than the Nutella Cookie with vainilla ice-cream.
Open: Mon-Sat: 13:30-1:30. Reservation is suggested, but not mandatory.
